How to extend a video with AI.
A clean source and a readable final action matter more than a long prompt. Use this checklist to choose the right clip, extension length, and review process.
Start with 3 free credits each calendar month. A 5-second extension uses 1 credit; a 10-second extension uses 2.
Open the Video Extender1. Start with a clean ending
Use the original camera file or highest-quality export available. The last few frames should contain one readable action: a person walking, a camera pan, moving traffic, drifting clouds, flowing water, or another motion with a clear direction. Hard cuts, title cards, severe blur, tiny faces, and objects entering from outside the frame give the model less reliable context.
2. Choose 5 or 10 seconds
Choose 5 seconds when you need a short tail for a transition, voice-over, or edit point. It costs 1 credit and usually limits visual drift. Choose 10 seconds when the action needs more room; it costs 2 credits and gives the model more time to depart from the source, so review identity, hands, text, and background structure carefully.
3. Know what continuation can change
An extender predicts plausible new frames; it does not recover a factual future that was recorded but hidden. Lighting, fine texture, facial details, text, and fast motion can shift. Audio depends on the selected route: compatible routes may generate a new track, while others retain only the source audio.
4. Review the seam and the generated segment
Watch once at normal speed, then replay the join between the source and generated footage. Check motion direction, camera speed, exposure, subject identity, hands, logos, captions, and repeating patterns. Download the result only after checking the full generated segment.
5. Use the smallest successful workflow
If 5 seconds solves the edit, stop there. Repeated continuations can compound drift. Keep the untouched source and the first acceptable result so you can compare later attempts instead of overwriting a better version.
Quick review checklist
- The source ends on one clear action.
- The extension length matches the editing need.
- The transition at the original endpoint looks continuous.
- Faces, hands, text, and branded details remain acceptable.
- The generated segment has been reviewed at normal playback speed.
- An original source copy is stored separately.
